KARACHI: Sindh Rangers Director General Major General Bilal Akbar on Wednesday said that of the 848 alleged target killers arrested since September 4, 2013, at least 654 were affiliated with the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM). Giving a briefing on targeted operation in Karachi to the members of the Sindh apex committee, headed by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, the Rangers DG said that the arrested accused were involved 7,224 cases, while those belonging to the MQM had confessed to being involved in 5,863 incidents of target killings. Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad, Senior Minister Nisar Khuhro, Karachi Corps Commander Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar, Sindh Police IG AD Khawaja and other senior officers attended the meeting to review matters pertaining to registration of seminaries, JITs for accused and establishment of anti-terrorism courts. Syed Murad Ali, making some important policy decisions on the occasion, established an anti-riot force and an information technology (IT) wing under which 2,500 officials would be recruited to operate the Criminal Record Management System (CRMS).
