KARACHI: Veteran TV anchor Waseem Badami has said that the youth of this country was aware of the prevailing political situation of the country and he was happy to witness them striving for a change in the existing system. He made these comments while addressing a Pakistan Day event at Mohammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU) Karachi.
Students of MAJU Karachi Computech society organised an All Karachi Inter University Debate competition on the eve of Pakistan Day at the university auditorium.
Students from around ten prominent universities participated in this debate competition. The resolution that was put up, “Today’s youth represents thoughts of Allama Iqbal”, was approved by the house with a thumbing majority. In all, 18 students delivered speeches in favour and opposition of the resolution.
According to the decision announced by the judges Mohammad Ateeb from NED, Zooma Sultan from NUST and Syed Iqbal Rizvi from Hamdard University, declared the winners of the competition. Veteran TV anchor Wasim Badami, who was the chief guest on this occasion distributed cash awards, shields and certificates to the participant students.
Addressing the gathering, Wasim Badami said that he was very happy to see that the youth was fully aware of the prevailing political situation in the country and strived for a change in the existing system. He said that in the present scenario, we saw that every worker supported his leader whether he was right or wrong, and this was not justified.
He further added that it was the responsibility of the workers to not support wrongdoings of their leaders in order to promote a healthy political environment in the country. He said this situation reflected the thinking of religious extremists who think that those who do not believe in their faith are their enemy.
The veteran TV anchor was of the opinion that it was a general trend in our society find reasons of our failures by shifting the responsibility on others and never admitting our own mistake.
Earlier, addressing to the debate competition, MAJU Student Affairs Director Ahmer Umer said that the university always encouraged its students to take part in extra-curricular activities to demonstrate their talent besides providing them with quality education.
He said he was very much impressed by the youth of Pakistan after listening to their thought provoking speeches and their views about the resolution for creation of Pakistan and philosophy of Allama Iqbal.
Badami added that the youth comprised 60 percent of Pakistan’s total population and was playing a satisfactory role for the development of the country. He also congratulated the organisers of this programme, Fauzia Naz, Nazish Noman, Mousa Haider and Adil Qayoum for arranging a useful event on Pakistan Day celebrations.
