ISLAMABAD: The Chinese government has asked Pakistan to ensure protection of Chinese nationals and institutions in the country. The statement comes in the wake of a terrorist attack on a Chinese engineer in Karachi a day earlier. Beijing on Tuesday also issued a security alert to its nationals currently living in Pakistan, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying. To a question about Chinese government’s response after the engineer was injured in the roadside explosion, the spokesperson told a regular press conference in Beijing that his country attaches high importance to this incident and that the Chinese embassy in Islamabad and consulate-general in Karachi had already lodged representations with the Pakistani side, asking them to get to the bottom of the incident and take concrete measures to protect Chinese nationals and institutions in Pakistan. The spokesman said that the Chinese engineer was slightly wounded in the bomb attack and has returned to his residence after treatment at a hospital.
