LOS ANGELES: Affleck won the Oscar for best actor on Sunday, for his role as a man marked by tragedy in the family drama Manchester by the Sea. Affleck beat out a host of other hopefuls that included Ryan Gosling for the musical La La Land as well as Andrew Garfield for Hacksaw Ridge, Viggo Mortensen for Captain Fantastic and Denzel Washington for Fences. There was increasing confidence that his win at the grandest ceremony in Hollywood was assured after he had already won the Golden Globe for Best Actor, with his performance in the movie already called one of the top performances of the year. However, the allegation he faced for sexual harassment followed him throughout the award season. The actor was alleged as having been sexually and emotionally abusive during the production of his 2010 documentary film “I’m Still Here”. However, despite all the scandals surrounding him, Affleck succeeded in winning the Oscar.
