LAHORE: Launched in 2014, Tokyo restaurant has made its presence felt among all Japanese and seafood lovers of the city. We especially like the fact, that the restaurant does not indulge in gaudy or in-your-face advertisements and mostly relies on word-of-mouth and a loyal clientele to bolster its sales. Nestled in a cosy street off the very commercial MM Alam Road, Gulberg, the restaurant’s interior is humble yet inviting, which is a testament to the fact that Tokyo focuses on the quality of food more than any unnecessary pomp and show. For those of you who haven’t been to the restaurant as yet, it hosts a single-storied space, which is spacious and elaborate. There’s a sushi bar on one side, as well as a menu that many regulars cannot get enough of. Keeping the almost-here winter season in mind, the creative team behind Tokyo have come up with a delectable winter menu, that everyone should try out. “The ingredients are all imported. Nothing local has been used. The seafood is freshly and daily selected by our chefs and there is no compromise on quality. The winter menu’s dishes are cooked to perfection and are according to international standards,” Tokyo General Manager Shehzad Anwar said, while talking exclusively to Daily Times. We tried their Yakitori from their Favourite Appetiser section, which was priced at Rs 550. It was served with fresh salad and a sweet and sour dip. Truly filling and tasted divine. It was the Prawn Tempura however from their Tempura Specials section that caught our attention and we realised Tokyo meant business with this newest menu. Priced at Rs 1,350, the humongous prawns were fresh and crispy and we devoured all six pieces. From the Teppanyaki Ala Carte section, we had the Prawn Teppanyaki as well as the Chicken Teppanyaki, priced at Rs 1,450 and Rs 1,095 respectively. We loved how the Prawn Teppanyaki was spicy, well-cooked and served with garlic rice that made up for a wholesome meal. No meal is obviously complete without a chilled drink, so we ordered their Mint Margarita to quench our thirst. From their Desserts section, we tried their Strawberry Cheese Cake, their Molten Lava Chocolate Cake as well as their Bread Pudding. Both the cakes were priced at Rs 465, but the Bread Pudding was a little costlier, priced at Rs 545. Other than the fact that their desserts might need a little more improvement in the taste department, Tokyo’s newest winter menu is a must-try even for those who are not fans of Japanese cuisine or seafood.
