Sir: This letter is in connection with a building that is under construction near Qalandaria Chowk, North Nazimabad, in front of a private school. It is a typical example of special interests receiving more consideration from the city’s administration than the citizens. The construction of the building has created many problems for the residents of the area. Digging of the street around the construction site has blocked half the road and causes delays for the commuters and transporters who use it. In addition to this, the area around the construction site is not properly guarded and is therefore unsafe. Children from two local schools use that road in the morning and afternoon and it is very dangerous for them to be near the site. There are no safety signs nor are there enough lights around the construction site to caution people. School vans pass along the road and accidents could occur any day since it is badly marked. Vans also use other streets in the area as their alternative routes, which is very disturbing for local residents. People generally use the streets to park their own vehicles and when school vans use the streets most of the time they get stuck, which once again creates many problems. The authorities responsible for overseeing this project have been requested to resolve this issue by either creating a firm boundary around the construction site or completely blocking the road and ensuring speedy construction. They should do so before people are seriously injured. AYESHA IZHAR Karachi
