Sir: Our VIPs move around in cities like visitors from some other planet. The traffic is blocked when they are on the roads, adding to the misery of the already hapless people of the country. Waiting for hours to go to their offices or homes, the poor victims are stranded and sometimes miss critical appointments. If VIPs are afraid of their own people they can travel by helicopters to save time and protect the population from unnecessary and excruciating inconvenience. In a society sinking in abject poverty, this kind of VIP arrogance is uncalled for and adds insult to injury. The practice of VIP motorcades must stop immediately as well to prove to the people that their rulers are not aliens and that life and death are in the hands of God. This political elite should also note that their exclusive movements fuel public hatred against them. B A Malik Islamabad
