Afforestation must to curb effects of climate change

PESHAWAR: The Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Engineer. Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has said that to ease the effects of climate change, there is a dire need to promote forestation and focus upon this sector of vital importance. “We may ensure safe future for the coming generations” the Governor said while talking while inaugurating the Spring Tree Plantation campaign at Governor’s House, Peshawar on Tuesday. Additional Chief Secretary, FATA, FidaWazir; Secretary, FATA Production, Abdul Latif Khan; Conservator, Forests, Abdul Basheer; DFO, Khyber Fazal Elahi, Ejaz Khan, Tayyab and other concerned officials were present on this occasion. In FATA, during the ongoing campaign, the Governor was informed, plantation will be carried out over an area of almost 7500 acres which will also include 25,000 fruit plants. Apart from this, it was further told, broadcasting technique will also be applied to cultivate medicinal plants over an area of additional 1000 acres. In his brief remarks on this occasion, the Governor said that almost 70 % of FATA was best suited to care and promote live-stock and forestation. The Government, he added, is doing its best while stretching its limited resources for this purpose.
