PESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor on Tuesday said that medical studies and research is the need of the hour Khyber Medical University (KMU) carried ample opportunities to flourish medical science studies and research in the region. Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra expressed these views while presiding over the senate meeting of Khyber Medical University at the Governor’s House Peshawar. The meeting was attended by the Provincial Minister for Health Shahran Khan Tarakai, Vice Chancellor Khyber Medical University Prof Dr Hafeezullah, Secretary Health Abid Majeed, Principal Secretary to Governor Sikandar Qayyum, Additional Secretary and Secretary Higher Education Khalid Khan. Governor Jhagra said that the government understood the need to ensuring quality of teaching facilities to the optimum level besides caring for financial matters with special focus on academic and research development activities. The meeting highlighted the achievements prevailing state of working and future goals for further promotion of research and educational activities of the university. After thread-bare discussion, the senate of the Khyber Medical University also approved its revised budget estimates for the year 2015-16 and 2016-17. Prof Dr Hafeezullah earlier highlighted the working of the Khyber Medical University (KMU). “The University with its six constituent institutions is offering PhD, Masters, Postgraduate, Nursing and graduate programmes in various disciplines,” he said. He further said that the university was offering educational facilities of unique nature in certain cases in the country and with the further development of all its constituent institutions, its working will become exemplary at the national level in all respects.
