islamabad: Pakistan Super League (PSL) Chairman Najam Sethi’s nomination as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief has been challenged in the Islamabad High Court (IHC). Najam Sethi, who was nominated for chairmanship of the board along with Arif Ejaz by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, was all set to assume charge of the PCB chairman after the tenure of former chairman Shahryar Khan ended. However, PCB Patron in Chief Nawaz Sharif was disqualified on Friday by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, which was also the last day of Shahryar Khan in office. On the other hand, Sethi said at a press conference after attending the last session of the previous governing board that the current political unrest in the country would not affect the elections of cricket board. While responding to journalists’ question, he said there was no legal obstacle in his way to become the PCB chief, and he would keep on doing his work despite criticism. He was scheduled to be elected the next chairman of PCB through elections in the first week of August, but elections might now face a delay. The issue will only be resolved after the election of the new prime minister. Published in Daily Times, July 30th , 2017.
