ISLAMABAD: A 24-member delegation of the China Highway and Transportation Society led by its Secretary General Liu Wenjie visited the National Highway Authority (NHA) Head Office here on Tuesday.
NHA Member Planning Raja Nowsherwan briefed the Chinese delegation, which is currently visiting selected countries along ancient Silk Road, on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a collection of projects currently under construction with a total outlay of $46 billion, which is intended to rapidly expand and upgrade Pakistani infrastructure, as well as deepen and broaden economic links between Pakistan and China.
Nowsherwan said Pakistan attached high importance to the project that would pave the way for socio-economic development of the entire region.
Giving details about the ongoing work on western route of the project, he said that 335km long section of the western route from Khunjrab to Raikot had been upgraded. Similarly, he said that work on 120km Thakot-Havelian section was in full swing. About Hakla-DI Khan Motorway, which is a vital part of the western route, he said that work on the project was already underway.
The visiting delegation also gave a presentation about infrastructure and development work in China. Liu Wenjie said that such visits would help in expanding relations in the field of highway and transportation between the two countries. Later, a memorial shield was also presented to the visiting delegation.
