Tando Jam: Sindh Board of Investment (SBI) and Sindh Enterprise Development Fund (SEPD) chief Naheed Memon has said that the Government of Sindh is committed to promoting the dairy sector – not only for food security but also to improve value addition and value chain. While addressing Italian and Russian diplomats and participants of the Livestock Dairy Fisheries Agriculture (LDFA) Exhibition, she highlighted the purpose of the exhibition. Italian and Russian diplomats also participated in the LDFA Exhibition and Seminar at the Sindh Agriculture University, in Tando Jam. They took great interest in the agricultural potential of Sindh lauding the purpose of holding the exhibition. They were also informed that Sindh produces a variety of field and horticultural crops. Major field crops are wheat, rice, sugarcane, and cotton; approximately 68% of the total cropped area is used for their production. Of the total output in Pakistan, Sindh produces 40% of the rice, 26% of sugarcane, 15% of wheat, and 25% of the cotton. Major horticulture crops are mangoes, bananas, and red chilies. Of the total output, Sindh produces 90% of chilies, 83% of bananas, and 25% of the mangoes. Sindh also has cultivable land under usage for fodder, pulses, condiments, oilseeds, fruits and vegetables. Earlier, the people of Sindh and experts, along with national and international participants, welcomed the provincial government’s efforts for showcasing Sindh agricultural potential to the world. The event was organised by Sindh Enterprise Development Fund (SEDF) and Sindh Board of Investment in collaboration with Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam and Livestock & Fisheries Department and Agriculture. A large number of citizens, families and children enjoyed the unique cattle parade, horse and camel dance, bird show and flower show during the event. Livestock farmers also participated in an animal show; horse and camel riders took their breeds to the parade track where they were awarded by the judges for their walk, health, qualities and other characteristics of animals. These breeds were brought from Kachho, Kohistan, Thar Desert, Ghotki, Matiari and other parts of the province. Chairperson Sindh Board of Investment (SBI) and Sindh Enterprise Development Fund (SEPD) Naheed Memon said, “I am pleased that the Government of Sindh is commencing the new year by organizing a vital exhibition for the mainstream sectors of the agricultural economy including Livestock, Dairy, Fisheries, and poultry which also reflects the government’s keen interest in Agricultural sector.” He further stated, “I am also pleased that Sindh Enterprise Development Fund (SEDF) is holding Agricultural Exhibition for the first time in the Agricultural University of Sindh. The purpose of holding this exhibition in Agricultural University is to link academic education and training with trade and development in Agricultural industry. We also want to promote economy on the basis of knowledge, development and research so that economy can be put on the track of modernization while making it more state of the art by meeting the demands of the modern world.”
