LAHORE: Jamaat e Islami Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq said that the deadlock over the ToRs for the judicial commission proved that the ruling party and some other elements did not want accountability even after the 8th meeting of the parliamentary committee. Addressing Friday congregation at Mansoora mosque, he said that some people apprehended that the accountability beginning from the Prime Minister would engulf others as well. Therefore, they wanted to escape Ehtisab by making the judicial commission controversial.
However, he said that the masses wanted an end to the prevailing system of exploitation and looting and the whole nation was demanding ruthless accountability. As such, no one would be able to escape this time. Sirajul Haq demanded that the NAB Chairman should be appointed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan in consultation with the Chief Justices of all the high courts, and not by the Prime Minister with the consent of the Leader of the Opposition.
He said that if the country was to be made safe for the common man, corruption must be wiped out. In order to save a country of 200 million people, a few thousand plunderers and dacoits must be sacrificed, he remarked. He said that those found guilty of corruption should be punished under the terrorist act and those misappropriating the public money should be disqualified from holding public offices for life and jailed for at least 25 years.
He said that the country was facing threats from within and abroad and the masses were disheartened. This was a time for collective penitence. The nation should recall its commitment with Allah for the enforcement of the Islamic system in the country as the existence and progress of the country rested with the Islamic system, he added. He said if the political leadership wanted to pull the country out of crises, it would have to say farewell to the false man-made systems and enforce the divine system of Islam.
Sirajul Haq slated programmes of mixed dances of young boys and girls telecast from different TV channels at the Iftar time and called upon the Information Ministry to immediately stop these programmes. They violated the Islamic values and the sanctity of the holy month of Ramazan. He said such programmes were an open invitation to the divine wrath.
