Displaced Waziristan families begin returning

Published on: July 19, 2016 12:19 AM

PARACHINAR: At least 70 families from North Waziristan consisting of some 200 individuals, including women and children, who had sought refuge in Khost province of Afghanistan in the wake of military operation against militants in their native areas, have returned to Pakistan’s Kurram Agency.

Official sources in the Kurram Agency political administration said the returning families belonged to North Waziristan Agency. After being displaced, they had sought refuge in Gurbuz area of Khost province in Afghanistan. The lack of facilities and other problems across the border forced the displaced tribal families to return to the country through Kharlachi and Shaheedano area alongside the Pak-Afghan boundary in Kurram Agency, sources said.

“We hope the government will soon allow us to return to our native hometowns since the law and order in North Waziristan has improved,” one of the displaced men said.

Talking to reporters they said they would be heading for Bannu from Kurram Agency to be sent back to North Waziristan Agency.
