Lawyers term security of capital courts insufficient

Published on: August 8, 2016 10:54 PM

ISLAMABAD: After the Quetta incident, the senior lawyers of Islamabad have termed the security situation of apex and lower courts of the federal capital totally unsatisfactory.

The President Islamabad High Court Bar Association Tariq Jahangir has called the IG Tariq Yasin and SSP (Operations) Islamabad Sajid Kiyani and expressed his apprehensions over the inadequate security measures of courts and bars at federal capital, Islamabad.

He told SSP Kiyani that the walk through gates and CCTV cameras, which were installed after the incident of F-8 installed at the premises of Islamabad High Courts as well as District Courts are out of order due to non maintenance. He said that after the incident of F-8 Markaz, special police commandos were deployed but after some time they were removed.

When Daily Times contacted senior lawyer and member Pakistan Bar Council Shoiab Shaheen he said that the security of lawyers has become a question mark as present government has completely failed to take solid measures in this regard. He said that Islamabad Bar considers itself absolutely unprotected.

The President of Supreme Court Bar Association Ali Zafar said that the lawyers had meeting with Chief Justice and they would announce their future strategy soon.

“Whenever any incident takes place, the government always uses to utter tall claims, but after some days it forgets”, he said.

The Secretary General of Islamabad High Court Bar Abdul Rafay told this scribe that the action being taken by Pak Army against the terrorism is commendable, but the performance of other security agencies is questionable. “As far as the security of Islamabad bars and courts is concerned, they can be targeted easily at any time”, he added by saying that it is the need of the hour to adopt long-term policy to prevent such kind of incidents.

He remembered that three years ago, on 8thAugust a police officer was martyered and afterward his funeral was victimized and the repetition of this kind of plan puts many questions on the performance of police and other law enforcement agencies.

SSP, Islamabad Sajid Kiyani said that though the security was already present at the courts of Islamabad and now after the Quetta incident it has been beefed up. The deployment has been made doubled and the checking of walk through gates and close circuit TV cameras has been ensured.

He said that Islamabad police is ready to deal with any untoward incident. Police would make sure to provide the protection of life and property to judges, legal fraternity and above all common people of the federal capital. “No negligence would be tolerated.”
