Remembering classic Eid tracks from iconic Pakistani films

Published on: June 9, 2019 12:07 AM

While searching for songs related to the joy of Eidul Fitr, I recalled some lovely songs, the details of which I would like to share with music lovers.

Eid is a joyous religious event celebrated all over the world where Muslims gather together. Naturally, its reflection is present in films produced in the subcontinent.

“EID KA DIN HAI GALE HANS KE LAGA LO MUJH KO” — filmed on Nadeem and Nisho, this song was penned by Qateel Shifai and composed by Melody Maker A. Hameed. The film is ‘Angarey’ made in 1972. The Nadeem-Nisho pair had become popular after the success of film ‘Baazi’. Sung by Ahmad Rushdi and Mala, this song is penned by Kaleem Usmani. The cast of this film is Shamim Ara, Nadeem, Nisho, Masood Akhtar, DiljeetMirza, and Talish&Roshan.

“EID KA DIN HAI GALE HUM KO LAGA KAR MILIYE” — this is a Mehdi Hassan melody filmed on Nadeem opposite Shabnam for the film ‘Intizar’, Music is by Nisar Bazmi. The catchy melodious interludes add flavour to the lyrics of Masroor Anwar. This film was released on August 09 1974. This film was directed by S. Suleman for producer R. A. Shamsi.

“CHAN CHAN DEI SAMENE AA GAYA” — rendered by Mala and Nazeer Begum in the music of Tufail Farooqi this song has been popular since the Punjabi film ‘Pagri Sanmbhal Jatta’ was released. This film had songs penned by Warris Ludheyanvi. This particular song was filmed on Aaliya and Firdaus. This film was directed by director S. A. Bukhari for producer Muhammad Shareef.

“HUA CHAND CHAND KE SAMNE” — Humera Channa and Mehnaz join hands to sing this song for the film ‘Sauten Meri Saheli’. Filmed on Reema and Neeli, the music was composed by Wajahat Attre and lyrics were penned by Riaz ur Rehman Saghar.

“EID KA DIN TERE BIN GAI” — combination of music composer Naushad Ali and lyricist Shakeel Bidayuni created this film song in 1958 for Nimmi and Bharat Bhushan starrer film ‘Sohni Mahiwal’. Naturally Muhammad Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar gave their voices for the lead pair. As expected it is a rich melody.

“MUBARIK EID MUBARIK” — an Eid Song ‘Mubarak Eid Mubarik’ from Bollywood Movie Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge was recorded in the year 2002 sung by singers Sonu Nigam, Arvinder Singh and Sneha Pant. On screen Salman Khan is seen dancing with friends.

“NAZAR AA GAYA” — an Eid Song ‘Chand Nazar Aa Gya’ from Bollywood Movie ‘Hero Hindustani’ released on October 23, 1998 was rendered by Afzal Sabri, Alka Yagnik, Iqbal Sabri, Sonu Nigam. Music was composed by Anu Malik. This film was directed by Aziz Sejawal. The cast was Arshad Warsi as Romi, Namrata Shirodkarm, Nikki Asrani as Cameroon Asrani and Kader Khan as Cadbury, Topi Parmeet Sethi and Rohit Paresh Rawal as Dadaji.

“MUJHE MIL GAYA BAHANA TERI DEED KA” — actress Shyama used to play important side roles in films made in 1950s and 1960s. I remember her last lovely performance in Dilip Kumar-Waheed Rehman’s lovely film ‘Dil Diya Dard Liya’ an adaptation of English Novel ‘Wuthering Heights’. The above song however relates to Madhubala-Bharat Bhushan starrer film ‘Barsat Ki Raat’ filmed on Shyama.
