Tariq Bashir in, Mushahid Hussain ‘out’

Published on: January 3, 2017 5:46 AM

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has replaced Mushahid Hussain Syed by MNA Tariq Bashir Cheema as new secretary general of the party.

According to the sources in the PML-Q, the party leadership replaced the secretary general due to busy schedule of Mushahid Hussain in the implementation of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

Sources said that Mushahid Hussain Syed was the most suitable person for the CPEC-related projects, as he has had sufficient links in China to mature it further in upcoming days and his role in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor was more important than that of being the general secretary of a political party.

Some of the parliamentary sources have informed Daily Times that though the Mushahid Hussain had not separated his affiliation with the PML-Q, he was more close to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and that he would contest Senate elections from the PML-N.

The decision to this effect was taken by the party at a high level meeting held here on Monday under the chairmanship of PML-Q President and former premier Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.

The party has also decided to give a grand reception to him soon in Islamabad to acknowledge his services for the party.

Commenting on the decision of the party leadership, PML-Q central information secretary Senator Kamil Ali Agha said that it the decision to replace the party’s general secretary was taken in the party’s meeting held on October 21.

He said the fresh appointment of all office-bearers of the party had also been decided.

He said that MNA Tariq Bashir Cheema had a vast experience of politics. Agha said that he [Cheema] had already worked as provincial minister for agriculture, and currently he is also performing the duties as the National Assembly Standing Committee on Science and Technology chairman.
