Kate Middleton’s most memorable fashion moments as she celebrates her 35th birthday

Published on: January 11, 2017 3:35 AM

When we think back to 10 years ago, Kate Middleton’s style is worlds away to the regal, influential one we see today.

Often spotted wearing her blazer, skirt and boots combo, we did not realise how one day the world would become obsessed with her outfits. Fast forward and today the Duchess of Cambridge celebrates her 35th birthday. Having worn an elegant green Sportmax coat for the church service at Sandringham, Katel enjoyed a day in private, surrounded by friends and family before she returns to work this week.

Having seen her style develop over the years, we thought we’d look back on some of her most memorable looks from over the years.

Who can forget the picture of a young Kate in a sheer dress on the catwalk for a charity fashion show.

Now officially dating Prince William and with the eyes of the world upon her, Kate was photographed in a tweed skirt and matching coat outside Blenheim Palace.

Kate started to show some of her fashion flair in a chic monochrome outfit at a wedding in 2005. It was a slimmer and more stylish Kate that emerged in 2008, in a stunning full length pink Issa gown at a charity ball.

Kate showed off her fun side in roller skates at a charity roller disco event she organised with Holly Branson. Kate caught the eye of the fashion press in another Issa dress, this time at a friend’s wedding.

A smiling Kate looking stunning in yet another Issa dress to announce her engagement to Prince William.

The cream £159 Reiss ‘Nanette’ dress that Kate wears in her official engagement portrait sells out and the term the ‘Kate effect’ starts to be widely used. Kate’s Alexander McQueen wedding gown stole the hearts of the nation and set the trend for lace bridal gowns for years to come.

Kate looked more glamorous than ever and wowed in a dramatic full length lace gown by Alice Temperley at the ‘War Horse’ premiere.

Kate earns her reputation for being thrifty by wearing an M Missoni coat that she purchased at the Bicester village outlet mall. Kate delighted her fans by recycling the outfit again for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Tour in 2012, a tactic that she now deploys regularly and has become renowned for.

On her first solo military engagement, Kate delighted the crowd in a chic dress coat by Emilia Wickstead, a style that has become one of her fall back looks.

Establishing a name for herself as an ambassador for British fashion, Kate delighted her fans in a grey Matthew Williamson peplum dress with green turquoise and gold beading.

Becoming bolder with her fashion choices, Kate stole the show in this cream Roland Mouret gown with a daring side spit and glittery Jimmy Choo platform sandals. Kate wore this dress again in 2013 to a film premiere.

Honing her fashion credentials Kate showcases the first of many gowns by Jenny Packham, who has become of her ‘go to’ designers.

Kate brightened up what became a very rainy day and delighted the crowds in a patriotic red Alexander McQueen dress, carrying a Strathearn tartan scarf.

A glowing Kate showed off her baby bump in a pale peach Jenny Packham empire line dress with a Jane Taylor pill box hat. Despite being pregnant, Kate was still wearing her favourite LK Bennett sledge nude heels.

A proud Kate shows off Prince George in a pretty polka dot Jenny Packham dress, apparently the designer also made a pink version. Growing in confidence Kate puts in a glamorous performance at a fundraiser in a recycled Jenny Packham gown and a stunning statement diamond necklace. Kate delighted her hosts and her fans with her arrival in New Zealand on the first day of the royal tour, in a regal-looking Catherine Walker coat dress, and wearing the Queen’s maple leaf broach.
