Police arrest 3,356 suspects in a week

The Police Department claims to have arrested 3,356 accused including 2,170 absconders and 1,186 proclaimed offenders from different parts of the province including Karachi between November 5 and 11, Daily Times has learnt.

A statement issued by the department stated that several caches of arms and ammunition were also seized during raids conducted to arrests these suspects.

According to the report presented to Sindh Inspector General of Police Dr Kaleem Imam, these suspects were wanted in cases registered with police stations in the Sukkur range and Khairpur district.

According to the district-wise break down, the highest number of suspects was arrested in Shaheed Benazirabad district, where 706 arrests were made. In Larkana district, the number of arrests made was 668, police arrested 533 suspects in Hyderabad and 37 in Mirpurkhas. Karachi police arrested 430 accused from different part of the metropolis.

Sindh IGP Dr Kaleem Imam has announced an award of Rs 100,000 and an Officer of the Week in Province certificate for the Deputy Inspector General of Police Iqbal Dar Sukkur range for his outstanding performance in catching crime suspects. The IGP has also announced Rs, 100,000 and Officer of the Week certificate in Khairpur district for Senior Superintendent of Police Umer Tufail.

The IGP has ordered that the names of these police officers will be placed on the list in the Central Police Office in order to recognise their services. The IGP has directed police official to treat citizens with respect and to provide a friendly environment at stations besides ensuring implementation of law and order. Dr Kaleem Imam has also given directions to police officers to curb drugs peddling in the province including Karachi.
