Amir Khan on Saturday has defeated Samuel Vargas despite being flattened by Colombian’s huge right cross in round 2 at the Birmingham Arena to keep his dream of a marque fight with Manny Pacquiao alive.
Khan fought back to gain a unanimous decision over twelve rounds, 119-108, 119-109 and 118-110 on the judges’ cards.
Vargas was down again in the third round and Khan came close to knocking out the Colombian in round five.

“I’m happy with the performance, apart from being caught in the second round,” said Khan, who admitted his carelessness.

It was only Khan’s third fight since 2015. Khan looked rusty in the ring, and that must have been because of his last encounter in 2016 with Saúl Álvarez where he was knocked out in Las Vegas, when challenging for the WBC middleweight title.
Although, he dominated in his last fight with Canadian Phil Lo Greco where he knocked out the opponent in 39-second in April.
Khan, 31, has not been a world champion since 2012, when he lost his WBA light-welterweight title to García. Khan now has 33 wins (21 KOs) and four defeats.
