Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy collaborates with LeBron James on new ‘HBO’ film

Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and celebrated sportsman, LeBron James are collaborating for a HBO documentary called “Student Athlete”. The documentary will display the real struggle of playing collegiate sports and how the industry affects student athletes and their families through a collection of players and a former NFL coach with expert knowledge on the matter.

The documentary stars former NFL and college coach John Shoop, Mike Shaw who played at the University of Illinois and Bradley University New Jersey, high school basketball star Nick Richards,  Shamar Graves, a former wide receiver at Rutgers University and Silas Nacita, who played at Baylor University.

On October 2nd HBO will air Student Athlete a film by two time Academy Award winning documentary film director Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy & @trishfilms – The film is Executive Produced by @kingjames & Produced by @mavcarter & @stevestoute. “Student Athlete” is an HBO Sports presentation in collaboration with LeBron James, Maverick Carter and Jamal Henderson at SpringHill Entertainment, and Steve Stoute at United Masters; directors, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Trish Dalton; executive producer, Rick Bernstein; supervising producer, Joe Perskie.

The filmmakers spent more than two years with college athletes learning about the billion dollar industry and the price players have to pay for being a part of it.

The documentary will air on October 2nd on HBO Sports.
