ISLAMABAD: Due to the negligence of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) out of the 14 filtration plants installed in the federal capital, ten are out of order.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) installed 14 filtration plants worth two billion rupees for a population of 0.8 million three years ago in various sectors of the capital to ensure the supply of clean water.
For the routine maintenance dozen of mechanics were appointed but after some time these filtration plants were out of order and instead of repairing these filtration plants the staff made the machinery, worth a hefty amount, disappear.
Residents of the capital were of the view that corrupt officials in the Capital Development Authority made the plants out of order to create water shortage and blackmail the residents. The mafia supplied the water through tankers according to their will.
Residents of Margalla Town Phase II while talking to Daily Times stated that ” their tube well is out of order for the last six months adding that they have submitted several complains to the supervisor and assistant director but all complaints were lying unattended”.
Residents requested the Mayor of Islamabad and the Chairman CDA that he should immediately take stern action against those who have been depriving the residents of Islamabad from clean water otherwise the residents will stage protest in front of the Parliament against the corrupt officials of the CDA.
Spokesperson Capital Development Authority, Mazhar Hussain, told Daily Times that a meeting was held in this regard adding that it was decided in the meeting all filtration plants should be made functional soon to supply clean water to the residents of the capital.
He added that in this regard a special responsibility was given by the Chairman CDA to the member planning.
To a question he further added that a special budget was prepared for this purposed and the directions were issued to the finance committee for the immediate allocation of the budget.
Mazhar Hussain stated that the repair work of the filtration plants would be initiated as soon as the budget was earmarked.
