Police on Tuesday claimed that they recovered explosive materials from a grave in a graveyard in District West of Karachi.
According to the police, the explosive material including bombs ready to go off , was found hidden under a grave at a local graveyard near Pareshan Chowk in Orangi Town within the limits of Mominabad police station.
According to District West Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Omar Shahid Hamid, a special party was formed to conduct a raid after the police got tipped off about the presence of explosive materials.
He added that the police party raided the graveyard and after digging a grave, the police recovered two bombs – one made in a bottle and the other in a container.
He said that both the bombs were ready to go off and were made for a major terror activity in a city, but the police foiled a possible major terror activity in the city.
According to the SSP, the police also recovered explosive materials including six detonators, remote control along with circuit, remote with battery, detonating wire, safety fuse, 9980 gram (g) of aluminum powder and 6302 g of dynamite.
The case has been registered against unidentified persons and further investigation is underway.
Separately, District Central police on Tuesday claimed that they made progress in a case regarding the mysterious killing of a young woman in New Karachi area.
Deceased Ramsha was killed and her brother, namely Wajahat was critically wounded when unidentified persons entered their home in New Karachi area and hit the victims with iron rods a few months ago.
The police claimed that they arrested a key suspect allegedly involved in the incident. The accused was identified as Hassan Ali. His arrest was made during a press conference held by District Central SSP Dr Rizwan Khan.
According to SSP Khan, the victim had borrowed some Rs5000 from the suspect and was not returning the money to him.
The SSP informed the media that the accused along with his cousin killed Ramsha and injured her brother with iron rods before also taking the victims’ cell phones away with them.
According to the SSP, these cell phones were switched on between May 26 to May 31 and were being used by a person called Danish.
The SSP said that the police traced the cellphones and finally managed to arrest the key suspect after interrogating Danish.
The case has been registered while further investigation is underway.
