Optimistic ‘Qudoos’ to strike third win at skills competitions

SHIKARPUR: A student of Sukkur IBA University, Abdul Qudoos secured second position in the industrical electrician competition held at Marriot Hotel in Karachi.

The competitions were organised by the National Vocational Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) of Pakistan.

He studied industrial electrician for six months under Prime Minister’s Youth Skill Development Program. The Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, who was the chief guest of the occasion, awarded a certificate and cash prize Rs 50,000 to Abdul Qudoos. Abdul Qudoos, who hails from a lower middle-class family, has been delighted with two consecutive wins, one at a regional competition at Sukkur IBA University and another at provincial level in Karachi.

Collectively, he had won cash prizes of Rs 70,000. Talking about his experience at Sukkur IBA University, Abdul Qudoos said that the environment and facilities available at the university were remarkable. “The books and tools were dispensed free of charge,” he added.

He confessed to fell confused during the provincial competition but the jury encouraged him.

Meanwhile, he planned to establish his own business of industrial electrician.

He revealed that after he got admission in the course, his instructor at Sukkur IBA University counseled him to join electrical repairing shop to acquire enhanced experience about the field.

Besides, acquiring training at the campus, he used to work at the electrician’s shop that upgraded his skills. Abdul Qudoos could not study after matriculation, due to death of his father and poverty-stricken family. “After financial improvement, I would continue studies in the field of engineering,” he pledged.

Meanwhile, Abdul Qudoos struck an optimistic tone to achieve first place in the final of skills competitions to be held in Islamabad.

Expert English Academy appreciates winners in Essay Writing Competition

The Expert English Academy in collaboration with the Sambara Scouts open group, on Thursday hosted a programme to distribute shields among the students who had won ‘District Expert Essay Writing Competition’ which was held at divisional Scouts Headquarters at Shikarpur.

Dr Naveed Ahmed was the chief guest on the occasion. In their address to the students, the speakers including Dr Naveed Ahmed, Sultan Rind, Abdul Wahab, Rafique Ahmed, Suhail Ahmed, the chairman EEA, and others emphasised the importance of education.

“Education is the third eye of humans, that leads nations towards evolution and prosperity,” they remarked. They urged students to acquire education for playing a pivotal role for the welfare of the society.

Later, they distributed shields amongst the winners including Ammar Ali and Jahanzaib Napar, students of C&S Degree College, Abdullah Riaz and Jahanzaib Khan, students of Hira Secondary School, Arbab Ali and Ali Asghar, students of Government Boys Haji Fatah Muhammad School in Shikarpur.

The students solemnly pledged to strive and study for the welfare of the society.

A large number of students and their parents were present on the occasion.

Unity of Journalists observes World Press Day

The Unity of Journalists on Thursday commemorated World Press Freedom Day at its office in Shikarpur. The Unity of Journalists president Sultan Ahmed Rind, the general secretary Aslam Soomro, information secretary Waheed Phulpoto said that the Press Freedom Day serves to remind people of the perils faced by journalists who are constantly being threatened by the ‘evil forces’.

They gave the example of Shaheed Ameer Bux Brohi, who was gunned down in Shikarpur by ‘unknown’ assailants and Shaan Dahar, who was shot dead in Dokri, a town of Larkana district.

The journalists including Sarang Bapar, Waheed Brohi, Hakeem Jatoi, Ayub Brohi, Syed Rasheed Shah, Farhan Murtaza, and others demanded the authorities to resolve the core issues of journalists, particularly their insurance policies, health card issuance and other basic facilities.

World Press Freedom Day is observed with an aim to pay homage to the journalists around the world, who sacrifice their lives in the line of duty.

A large number of journalists paid tribute to the martyred journalists all over the world.
