Akshay Kumar responds to controversy regarding Rustom uniform auction

Published on: May 2, 2018 6:47 PM

Twinkle Khanna recently posted on all her social media accounts that the naval uniform worn by her husband Akshay Kumar in the 2016 movie, “Rustom” will be going up for auction. According to Twinkle Khanna, the earnings from the auction will go towards the cause of animal welfare.

Using all the goodwill I have left to raise money for a good cause 🙂 Do bid folks! And thank you @karanjohar @hrithikroshan @sonamkapoor and of course @akshaykumar for giving all this fab stuff to @saltscout toward the Janice Smith trust for animal welfare! www.SaltScout.com

A post shared by Twinkle Khanna (@twinklerkhanna) on Apr 26, 2018 at 12:15am PDT

Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna’s post about auctioning the naval officer’s uniform worn has magnified into an ugly exchange of threats on social media between Twinkle and a man, Sandeep Ahlawat, believed to be an army officer. He sent a letter to Twinkle, threatening to take her to court if she even attempts to auction the costume. He ends the post with the threat of giving her a “bloody nose” if she touches the honour of Armed Forces.

And this response to @mrsfunnybones ill advised idea to auction the Rustom costume comes from one of the finest men in uniform I know- Lt Col Sandeep Ahlawat. pic.twitter.com/lwDXuG0CLm

Twinkle reacted to Sandeep’s threat, questioning the normalisation of threats of bodily harm in response to being offended. She said, “As a society do we really think it’s all right to threaten a woman with bodily harm for trying to raise funds for a charity by auctioning a uniform used in a movie, a piece of film memorabilia ? I will not retaliate with violent threats but by taking legal action!”

Akshay Kumar responded to the controversy surrounding his wife Twinkle Khanna and her decision to auction the “Rustom” uniform. He said, “I support my wife on that matter. My wife and I are doing some work with good intentions for a good cause. That was a costume that I used in the film. It is going for (for auction) a good cause. I do not think we have done anything wrong. If anyone finds it wrong then it is okay. I cannot do anything on that.”

However, Ahlawat responded to Twinkle’s tweet with another Facebook post defending his usage of the phrase “bloody nose”.
