Published on: April 29, 2018 2:40 AM

SHIKARPUR: Sukkur IBA University Registrar addressed the participants of certificate distribution ceremony of the Prime Minister Youth Skills Development Program, which was held in the auditorium of the university on Friday.

“Our curriculum has outdated and needs to be updated accordingly with the requirements of the modern age. Around 135 million youth population is 63% of the total population and the government lacks resources to accommodate all of them with career opportunities and jobs. Hence, youths must acquire extra skills for securing their career,” he said. He appreciated National Vocational Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) that it has been providing vocational and technical training to the unemployed youth. He said that Sukkur IBA University provides such training to the youth as part of social services to the community.

“Youth must be equipped with creativity, critical thinking, communication skills and time management. Innovative idea can lead to a success that is acclaimed globally,” he said.

The NAVTTC director general Abdul Raheem said that NAVTTC trained 25,000 youth initially that has been increased to 100,000 so that more can get benefit.

“Training youth is a solution for the unemployed. Uneducated youth worked at workshops and had experience but no certificate. However, the programme can enhance their skills that could lead them towards career opportunity. Those having experience can undergo tests conducted by us and then certificates would be awarded to the successful candidates,” he announced.

The Centre of Entrepreneur Leadership and incubation director Ikhtiar Ahmed Khoso outlined skills acquired under the PMYSDP. He said that unemployed youths were taking keen interest in the vocational and technical training. After completing various courses, they had acquired job opportunities and supporting their families.

On this occasion, some of the youths shared their success stories with the guests and participants.
