Punjab has launched its first portable X-ray service for wildlife, marking a significant advancement in veterinary care for wild animals. The initiative aims to improve on-site diagnosis and reduce stress during medical treatment.
The Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department introduced the new service through the modern Wildlife Hospital at Lahore Safari Zoo. A veterinary team visited Lahore Zoo to examine several animals using the portable X-ray equipment.

According to officials, a fallow deer and a python underwent detailed on-site X-ray examinations during the visit. The new system eliminates the need to transport animals to veterinary hospitals for routine imaging.
Meanwhile, authorities said the portable technology enables faster and safer medical assessments. It also reduces the risks associated with moving injured or vulnerable wildlife for diagnostic procedures.
Moreover, the department said the initiative will strengthen wildlife healthcare by improving the speed and accuracy of medical diagnosis. Officials expect the service to enhance treatment outcomes for animals under care.
