The United States carried out its 11th consecutive night of airstrikes on Iran on Wednesday, with fresh attacks triggering air defence systems in Tehran as tensions between the two countries continued to escalate.

According to the US military, the latest strikes targeted military logistics infrastructure and other strategic sites aimed at weakening Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian state media reported explosions in several parts of the country, including around Bushehr, home to one of Iran’s nuclear power facilities, while air defence activity was reported in western, eastern and northeastern areas of Tehran.
The conflict has intensified after the collapse of a preliminary diplomatic agreement, raising concerns about regional security and global energy supplies. Fighting has expanded beyond the Strait of Hormuz, with additional threats emerging around other key maritime routes in the Middle East.
US President Donald Trump said Washington’s military campaign was far from over, stating that Iran would take decades to recover from the damage already inflicted. He also indicated that the underground nuclear-linked facility known as Pickaxe Mountain could become a future target, prompting Iran to warn of broader retaliation against American interests and its allies if such an attack takes place.
The Pentagon has estimated that the conflict has already cost the United States $37.5 billion, with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth requesting additional military funding from Congress. The prolonged campaign has also become a political issue in Washington as lawmakers debate its financial and strategic impact ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.
Meanwhile, regional tensions continued to rise as Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan reported intercepting Iranian drones and missiles. Yemen’s Houthi movement also renewed threats to target Saudi shipping, increasing concerns over disruptions to global oil supplies.

Despite the ongoing military confrontation, diplomatic contacts have not been completely suspended. Iran said indirect communication with the United States through mediators continues, while Pakistan has maintained efforts to encourage dialogue and support regional de-escalation.
