Pakistan and Iran have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, with a particular focus on security, border management and regional stability, during talks between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Iranian counterpart Eskandar Momeni in Islamabad.

Momeni, who is on an official visit to Pakistan, was welcomed at the Ministry of Interior with a guard of honour presented by a contingent of the Federal Constabulary. The two ministers held one-on-one discussions followed by delegation-level talks covering bilateral relations, trade, regional developments and areas of mutual cooperation.
According to Pakistan’s Interior Ministry, both sides agreed to enhance collaboration in counter-terrorism, counter-narcotics operations, preventing illegal immigration and combating human trafficking. The ministers also stressed the importance of closer coordination between the relevant institutions of both countries to address cross-border security challenges.
The discussions included measures to curb drug smuggling and terrorism originating from areas along the Afghan border, with both countries pledging to improve intelligence sharing and operational coordination.
Speaking after the meeting, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan was ready to expand cooperation with Iran in all fields. He also praised the efforts of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni in promoting peace, expressing hope that diplomatic initiatives would soon produce positive outcomes for regional stability.
Momeni’s visit follows a series of high-level engagements in Pakistan. On Tuesday, he met Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir to discuss regional security, effective border management and issues of mutual interest. He also held talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who reaffirmed Pakistan’s willingness to act as an honest mediator in efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the Middle East.

The visit comes as Pakistan continues diplomatic efforts to support the implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed between the United States and Iran last month. Pakistani officials have repeatedly emphasized dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred path toward achieving lasting peace and regional stability.
