Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) signed a contract for the construction of a new school in Shahi Gyal as part of the resettlement plan for the Dasu Hydropower Project.
The agreement was signed during a ceremony at the Dasu Hydropower Project office, according to Gwadar Pro.
The school is being relocated from Seer Gyal under the project’s Resettlement Action Plan after the original site was affected by project development.
According to WAPDA, it coordinated with the provincial Education Department to acquire land at Shahi Gyal to ensure continuity of educational services for local residents.
The construction contract has been awarded to M/s Shams-e-Ilahi, with work expected to be completed within 18 months. The Dasu Hydropower Project, being built by China’s China Gezhouba Group Co. Ltd. (CGGC) on the Indus River in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is one of Pakistan’s largest hydropower projects.
The scheme includes the construction of a 242-meter-high roller-compacted concrete dam, spillways, diversion tunnels, underground power facilities and related hydraulic infrastructure. Once completed, the project is designed to generate 4,320 megawatts of electricity, significantly boosting Pakistan’s hydropower capacity.
