Pakistan’s IT exports hit record $4.6bn: SBP

Published on: July 17, 2026 7:03 PM

Pakistan’s information technology exports rose 21% to a record $4.6 billion during fiscal year 2025-26, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). The strong performance reflects continued growth in the country’s technology sector and digital economy. Government incentives and expanding freelancing activity helped drive the record-breaking export earnings.

The SBP said IT exports reached a new monthly high of $416 million in June 2026. Monthly exports increased 12% compared with May and 23% from June last year. The figures underline sustained momentum in Pakistan’s software and IT-enabled services industry.

Industry experts attributed the growth to tax relief, supportive government policies, and an improved business environment. They said these measures encouraged technology companies and freelancers to expand their services in international markets. Rising global demand for digital services also supported export growth.

According to the report, Pakistani freelancers generated more than $1 billion in export earnings for the first time during FY2025-26. The milestone highlights the growing role of freelance professionals in strengthening Pakistan’s digital economy. Officials expect the sector to continue contributing to foreign exchange earnings and employment.

The record export performance reinforces the IT sector’s importance to Pakistan’s economic growth strategy. Policymakers view technology and freelancing as key drivers of exports, investment, and job creation. Continued policy support is expected to help sustain the sector’s long-term expansion.
