Memon welcomes Sindh-Centre synergy to address climate-related hazards

Published on: July 12, 2026 5:01 AM

Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has welcomed the effective coordination between the federal and Sindh governments to address the challenges posed by monsoon rains, floods, heatwaves, and other climate-related hazards, saying that the provincial government is fully prepared to protect the lives and property of the people and respond to natural disasters.

In a statement, he said that a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister of Sindh reviewed the province’s preparedness for the 2026 monsoon season, emerging climate-related risks, and other related issues in detail. He said that advance planning, timely decision-making, and the use of modern technology to tackle natural disasters are the need of the hour.

Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the launch of the Next Generation Early Warning System and Predictive Disaster Intelligence System is a major breakthrough in Pakistan’s disaster management framework, enabling the timely identification of potential threats through the use of modern technology and real-time meteorological, hydrological, and geographical data. He said that this advanced system will significantly contribute to protecting human lives, infrastructure, and property.

He said that due to climate change, Pakistan is facing serious threats, including rapid glacial melting, flash floods, riverine flooding, extreme heat, and prolonged drought. In such circumstances, a coordinated strategy and effective collaboration among all relevant institutions are indispensable.

Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the Sindh government remains in constant coordination with all relevant departments, district administrations, and rescue agencies. He added that the necessary resources, machinery, and relief measures will remain fully operational throughout the monsoon season to respond to any emergency and ensure the maximum possible protection of the lives and property of the people.
