
Pakistan Air Force Group Captain Asim Tariq, who was martyred while rescuing a woman in distress, was laid to rest with full military honours on Tuesday. The funeral was attended by senior military officials, airmen and members of civil society. The ceremony recognised his courage, selfless service and unwavering commitment to protecting others.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu attended the funeral prayers alongside senior Pakistan Air Force officers. The military honoured the officer’s exceptional bravery and sacrifice. A large number of civilians also joined the funeral to pay their final respects.

The Air Chief said Group Captain Tariq’s sacrifice reflected the highest traditions of the Pakistan Air Force and the country’s armed forces. He said the officer demonstrated that PAF personnel remain committed to protecting both the nation’s frontiers and its citizens. He described the fallen officer’s actions as a symbol of courage, honour and duty.
The incident occurred on Sunday near Air University in Islamabad’s Margalla Police Station jurisdiction. According to police, Tariq was travelling to Rawalpindi on official duty when he noticed a man forcibly pulling a woman toward a motorcycle. He immediately intervened, but the suspect opened fire after an argument, fatally wounding the officer.

Islamabad Police arrested the suspect within nine hours of the shooting. Police said the suspect and the woman worked at the same cash and carry outlet, and the dispute began after the woman refused to accompany him to another location. Authorities said investigations into the case are continuing.
