Punjab to expand green electric bus network to 147 tehsils: Azma

Published on: July 5, 2026 5:34 AM

Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bokhari said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the revolutionary initiatives of Green Electric Buses, Green Tractors, and Electric Bikes have opened a new chapter in public service, modern transportation, agricultural development, and youth empowerment across the province.

She said that Green Electric Buses have brought a genuine transformation to Punjab’s public transport sector. The overwhelming public response has significantly increased demand for the service. According to her, citizens from across Punjab are requesting Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to extend the Green Electric Bus service to their cities, which clearly reflects the project’s remarkable success.

Azma Bokhari stated that 1,100 Green Electric Buses are currently operating across Punjab, providing modern, safe, comfortable, and affordable transportation to the public. She added that millions of commuters benefit from these services every day. The provincial government, she said, is committed to expanding the network to 147 tehsils in the near future, ensuring that quality public transport reaches every citizen.

The Information Minister further said that alongside the Green Bus initiative, the distribution of Green Tractors is progressing rapidly to help farmers benefit from modern agricultural machinery and enhance agricultural productivity. Similarly, the Electric Bikes scheme for students is moving forward successfully, aiming to provide dignified, affordable, and environmentally friendly transportation for young people.

Azma Bokhari said that farmers and youth remain the top priorities of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. She emphasized that every development initiative launched by the Chief Minister places young people at the forefront, which is why her popularity among the youth continues to grow.

She added that the Punjab Government is firmly committed to the principles of merit, transparency, and public service. As a result, Punjab today stands unmatched by any other province in Pakistan in terms of performance, good governance, and merit. She concluded that under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Punjab is rapidly advancing toward development, prosperity, and the provision of modern public facilities.
