PM Shehbaz highlights Pakistan’s role in regional diplomacy

Shehbaz Sharif

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Pakistan reflected the strong brotherly ties between the two neighbouring countries and acknowledged Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace and stability.

Addressing the passing-out parade at the Pakistan Naval Academy in Karachi, the prime minister congratulated the graduating cadets and welcomed participants from friendly countries, saying their presence highlighted Pakistan’s close defence ties with regional partners. He also praised the Pakistan Navy for its professional performance and contributions to national security.

The premier said Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts had contributed to recent regional developments, describing the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran as a significant achievement. He said the agreement was the result of sincere efforts by Pakistan, with the support of friendly countries, to encourage dialogue and reduce tensions.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also acknowledged the role of Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, saying he had worked tirelessly to support peace initiatives and facilitate diplomatic engagement among the concerned parties.

Referring to President Pezeshkian’s visit, the prime minister said it demonstrated the strength of Pakistan-Iran relations and recognised Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting peace in the region. He added that the region was witnessing major geopolitical changes that could have long-term implications.

The prime minister also expressed concern over Pakistan’s security environment, alleging that the country was facing foreign-sponsored terrorism and accusing India of increasingly relying on proxy elements following last year’s conflict. He said Pakistan’s armed forces remained committed to eliminating terrorism and safeguarding national security.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s foreign policy priorities, Shehbaz Sharif said the country would continue to promote peace through dialogue and diplomacy while extending unwavering political and diplomatic support to the people of Kashmir and Palestine. He added that Pakistan remained committed to playing a constructive role in regional and international peace efforts.
