In solemn observance of the sacred month of Muharram Ul Haram, the Lahore Arts Council, Alhamra, organised a deeply moving and intellectually enriching event titled “The Expression of Karbala in the Arts,” bringing together scholars, poets, artists and cultural thinkers to explore the timeless influence of Karbala on literature, visual arts and human civilisation.
The programme served as a powerful reminder that Karbala is not merely a historical event confined to a particular time or place; it is an eternal moral compass that continues to inspire humanity’s pursuit of truth, justice, dignity and unwavering resistance to oppression. More than thirteen centuries later, its message remains alive in the conscience of humanity, illuminating hearts, shaping cultures and enriching artistic expression across generations.
The discussion offered an extensive examination of the intellectual, literary and artistic legacy of Karbala. Participants reflected on how poetry, painting, calligraphy, and countless literary works found renewed depth and spiritual resonance through the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions.
