Pakistan and Iran pledge deeper cooperation for regional stability

Published on: June 24, 2026 4:52 PM

Pakistan and Iran reaffirmed their commitment to stronger bilateral relations and regional peace during a high-level meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni in Islamabad. The two leaders reviewed the regional situation following the recent peace agreement and expressed satisfaction over the reduction in tensions, emphasizing the importance of continued diplomatic engagement to maintain stability and prevent future conflicts.

During detailed discussions, both sides highlighted the value of close cooperation between neighboring countries in addressing shared challenges and promoting long-term peace. They agreed that constructive dialogue and mutual understanding remain essential for strengthening regional security. The meeting reflected a shared desire to expand collaboration and build on positive developments that have emerged following recent diplomatic efforts in the region.

Mohsin Naqvi reiterated Pakistan’s consistent support for peace and stability, stating that the country would continue to contribute to efforts aimed at reducing tensions and encouraging dialogue. He also welcomed the recent declaration reached in Switzerland and congratulated the Iranian leadership on its role in advancing the agreement. According to Naqvi, the progress achieved through negotiations offers hope for improved regional harmony and cooperation.

Meanwhile, Eskandar Momeni thanked Pakistan for its support and appreciated its constructive role in promoting peace and easing tensions. He also acknowledged the hospitality extended to him and the Iranian delegation during their visit. Furthermore, the Iranian minister praised the goodwill shown by the people of Pakistan and expressed confidence that bilateral relations would continue to grow in the coming months.

The meeting also produced an understanding to enhance cooperation in several strategic sectors. Both countries agreed to strengthen coordination in security, cyber security and immigration management while improving communication between relevant institutions. These measures are expected to help both sides address emerging challenges more effectively and deepen practical cooperation across multiple areas of mutual interest.

In addition, Momeni announced plans for a more detailed visit to Pakistan in the near future to further advance joint initiatives and strengthen institutional ties. Senior Pakistani officials, including representatives from the Interior Ministry, FIA, National Police Academy and National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, attended the meeting. The discussions underscored the growing importance of Pakistan-Iran cooperation as both nations seek greater stability, security and economic progress in the region.
