Russian drone strikes Turkish cargo vessel

Published on: June 22, 2026 9:18 PM

A Russian drone struck a Turkish-operated dry cargo vessel in Ukrainian waters, causing a major fire aboard the ship, according to the Ukrainian Navy. The incident is significant because it highlights continuing risks to civilian maritime traffic amid the conflict. Crew members from Egypt, Türkiye, and India were among those affected by the attack.

The vessel, identified as Victress, was sailing under the Panamanian flag when it was hit. Ukrainian naval authorities said the drone strike ignited a large fire on board. Emergency efforts were launched immediately following the incident.

According to the Ukrainian Navy, the ship carried a crew of nine nationals from Egypt, Türkiye, and India. Several crew members suffered casualties during the attack. However, officials said all personnel were successfully rescued from the vessel.

Authorities did not immediately disclose the number of injured crew members or the severity of their conditions. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the strike are expected to continue. Additional information may emerge as rescue and assessment operations progress.

The incident underscores ongoing security concerns in the region’s shipping lanes as the conflict continues. Commercial vessels operating in and around the Black Sea remain vulnerable to military activity. Maritime safety has become an increasing concern for international shipping companies and crews.
