Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to meet US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France, a government source said. The leaders are expected to discuss trade relations, visa policies and energy cooperation. The potential meeting comes at a sensitive time for US-India ties and affects bilateral economic and migration policy discussions.
According to the source, both sides are preparing for informal bilateral talks during the June 15–17 summit in Evian-les-Bains. Modi will begin a five-day visit on June 13 and attend multiple diplomatic engagements. Moreover, the G7 gathering will bring together major global economies, including the United States and India.
Trade issues are expected to dominate the agenda amid ongoing tariff disputes between Washington and New Delhi. India is pushing for better market access and preferential tariff treatment in ongoing negotiations. Meanwhile, both countries are working toward a broader interim trade agreement expected in the coming months.
Visa policies, especially the H-1B programme, are also likely to feature prominently in the discussions. The issue affects thousands of Indian professionals working in the United States. Additionally, energy cooperation and strategic trade alignment are expected to be part of the talks.
However, officials say no formal confirmation of the meeting has been announced yet. The engagement remains dependent on summit scheduling and diplomatic coordination. Still, recent exchanges between both governments suggest improving momentum in bilateral relations.
