The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across large parts of the country from June 11 to 13. The weather system is expected to bring hazardous conditions affecting daily life and infrastructure. The warning impacts residents, farmers and travellers across multiple regions.
According to the PMD, a westerly weather system will enter upper Pakistan on June 11. Moist currents from the Arabian Sea will also strengthen weather activity across central and northern areas. Moreover, these combined systems are likely to trigger widespread instability during the forecast period.
Intermittent dust storms, gusty winds and rain-thundershowers are expected in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorms may also occur in some areas. Furthermore, northeastern Balochistan and upper Sindh are likely to experience strong winds and dust storms.
The Met Office warned that severe weather could damage weak infrastructure such as solar panels, billboards and electricity poles. It also cautioned that heavy rainfall may trigger urban flooding in major cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad. Additionally, landslides are possible in mountainous regions of the north.
Meanwhile, authorities advised farmers to protect crops and plan agricultural activities carefully. Tourists and travellers were urged to avoid unnecessary movement during the storm period. However, the system is expected to gradually weaken after June 13 as conditions stabilize.
