A heavy rain and hailstorm was recorded in various parts of Rawalpindi on Thursday, bringing down the temperature significantly. Hailstorm was also observed in various parts of the city early Thursday morning, adding to the intensity of the weather conditions. As a result of the rainfall, the temperature in Rawalpindi dropped to as low as 22°C, which remained unusual for the month of June. According to the Met Office Wednesday’s updates, Shamsabad received 39mm rain, Gawalmandi 28mm, New Kattarian 26mm, Chaklala 13mm and Pirwadhai 11mm, while Murree recorded 32mm rainfall. The Met Office had earlier predicted thunderstorm and rain from June 2 to 5 under the influence of a weather system affecting upper parts of the country. The pleasant weather attracted citizens who floaked to parks and picnic points. A huge rush was observed in Ayub Park amd Rawal Lake, while increased gatherings at hotels and restaurants were also seen in the evening. Murree administration has advised tourists to check the latest weather conditions before travelling to the hill station to avoid any inconvenience. District administrations are monitoring the situation, while citizens have been urged to take necessary precautions during the ongoing spell of rain.
