LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday ordered the registrar to fix before a full bench petitions seeking a probe against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif (PM) in Panamagate case.
The petitioner counsel said that last year the LHC chief justice had formed a full bench, but the registrar fixed it before the division bench instead of a full bench. He requested the court to direct the registrar to fix the petitions before a full bench.
Lawyer Azhar Siddique told the court that the Supreme Court had given verdict on the petitions of the political parties in Panamagate case while the present petitions were different. He said that the petitioners had written an application to the NAB along with the evidences of alleged money laundering and corruption of the Sharifs.
He pleaded that it was NAB’s responsibility to hold investigation on any written application but it did not fulfill this legal requirement. He said that the petitioners had also made Election Commission of Pakistan respondent and sought disqualification of the PM.
He said that on these grounds, the petitions were different from those heard by the Supreme Court. He requested that the petitions should be fixed before a full bench.
Gohar Nawaz Sindhu and others moved the petitions for the PM’s disqualification for allegedly establishing offshore companies.
