Saudi uses AI to secure Hajj 2026

Published on: May 22, 2026 8:41 PM

Saudi authorities have deployed drones, artificial intelligence, and advanced surveillance systems to enhance security during the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage. The measures aim to manage large crowds, prevent violations, and ensure safe movement across holy sites. Officials said the system supports smoother operations for millions of pilgrims.

According to reports, drones and aircraft are being used to monitor large areas and detect unauthorized entry attempts. The technology operates under the “No Hajj without a permit” policy to enforce regulations. Security teams receive real-time alerts to respond quickly to suspicious activity.

Authorities are also using smart surveillance networks, high-resolution cameras, and thermal imaging devices. These tools help improve monitoring in densely crowded areas. Officials said the system increases efficiency and reduces response time during emergencies.

Artificial intelligence is being used to analyse crowd movement and predict congestion before it occurs. The system helps redirect pilgrims to less crowded routes to improve safety. Facial recognition technology is also assisting in identifying individuals and strengthening security control.
