Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has held discussions with Oscar-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy regarding potential collaboration on the proposed Punjab Film City project.

According to an official statement, the meeting focused on exploring ways to develop the initiative as a modern media and entertainment hub aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s film and digital production industry.
During the meeting, Maryam Nawaz appreciated Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s international achievements and acknowledged her contributions to highlighting social issues through documentary filmmaking and journalism.

Officials said discussions included possible collaboration agreements related to the Punjab Film City project, which is planned to be established as Pakistan’s first comprehensive media production facility.
The chief minister stated that Punjab Film City is envisioned as an “end-to-end” production hub equipped with facilities for film, television, digital media, virtual production, visual effects, and post-production services.
The proposed project will also include modern studios, sound stages, post-production laboratories, designated shooting locations, and a lake within the complex. In addition, authorities plan to establish a convention hall, media trade hub, and dedicated institutions for film and music education.
The initiative is part of broader efforts by the Punjab government to promote arts, culture, and the creative economy by providing local filmmakers and digital creators with advanced production infrastructure.
Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy reportedly praised the provincial government’s cultural initiatives and described the focus on arts and entertainment as a positive step toward revitalising Pakistan’s creative sector.
She also highlighted the importance of cultural festivals and traditional events in reconnecting people with local heritage and strengthening cultural identity.
According to the statement, Sharmeen noted growing international interest in Pakistan’s cultural and entertainment activities, adding that such initiatives could attract collaboration opportunities from global creative industries.
Officials believe the Punjab Film City project could play a significant role in supporting local talent, boosting media exports, and creating employment opportunities within Pakistan’s entertainment sector.
