The envoy noted that any prolonged disruption in the Strait of Hormuz — a key global shipping route — could significantly impact oil and gas supplies, food security, and supply chains. He warned that such challenges would disproportionately affect developing nations, potentially triggering inflation, slowing economic growth, and worsening balance of payments.
Pakistan also called for increased diplomatic engagement and maritime cooperation to address the situation and prevent escalation. The country reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful dialogue and international collaboration as the most effective means to resolve tensions affecting vital sea lanes.
Highlighting Pakistan’s role in promoting regional stability, the envoy pointed to ongoing diplomatic efforts supported by countries including China, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Egypt to de-escalate tensions in the broader region. He reiterated that Pakistan remains committed to facilitating peaceful solutions through dialogue.
The statement also underscored the importance of adhering to international maritime law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), as a framework for maintaining order and security in global waters.
