Bilawal briefed on Sukkur’s development projects, praises civic initiatives

Published on: April 28, 2026 2:12 AM

Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari held an important meeting with Sukkur Mayor and Sindh Government Spokesperson Barrister Arsalan Islam Shaikh at Bilawal House, where they discussed ongoing development projects, provision of public facilities, and measures for effective governance in Sukkur city, said a release issued here on Monday.

During the meeting, Barrister Arsalan Islam Shaikh gave a comprehensive briefing to Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on the performance of Sukkur Municipal Corporation. He said the institution was rapidly moving toward complete digitalization and would be transformed into a paperless and modern municipal system within the next few months.

Barrister Arsalan Islam Shaikh informed that under the Sindh Chief Minister’s Public Complaint Cell, hundreds of public complaints were being addressed promptly and effectively daily, where cabinet members, special assistants, and spokespersons were working in a coordinated manner to serve the public.

He further said that a major clean drinking water supply project had been successfully completed in Sukkur under a public-private partnership, benefiting more than 650,000 people from over 100,000 households. The project, he noted, reflected a significant improvement in the city’s quality of life.

Shedding light on the drainage system, Barrister Arsalan Islam Shaikh said that more than 50 percent of Sukkur’s wastewater was currently being treated before being discharged into the Indus River, with a target to achieve 100 percent treatment within the next three months – a major step toward environmental protection and sustainable development.

Under environmental responsibility, he said, special measures were underway to protect the Indus River blind dolphin and freshwater turtles, reflecting a commitment to promoting biodiversity.

Moreover, Barrister Arsalan Islam Shaikh said that preparations had been completed to launch mega projects in Sukkur in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank in the fields of parking, roads, bridges, plantation, and skill development – a key step toward transforming the city into a modern urban model.

For women’s welfare, he announced the “Ladies World” project of international standard, which would include a walking track, swimming pool, gymnasium, library, and other modern facilities to provide women with a safe, dignified, and healthy environment.

Similarly, Barrister Arsalan Islam Shaikh said the Gadani Phatak Overhead Bridge project would also be launched soon, which would improve connectivity between two major talukas of Sukkur and directly benefit around 350,000 people.

At the conclusion of the meeting, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari lauded the ongoing development projects and public welfare initiatives in Sukkur, reiterating the party’s commitment to ensuring the provision of the best facilities to citizens under its vision of public service, transparent governance and sustainable development.
