The United States has decided to begin direct talks with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, marking a significant step in efforts to ease tensions between the two countries. According to US Vice President J.D. Vance, officials from the US Central Command (CENTCOM) and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) are expected to meet in Doha. The discussions will focus on reducing tensions, improving communication, and exploring possible areas of cooperation.
In an interview with a British news website, J.D. Vance said the planned meeting will include talks on resolving differences, economic incentives, and future cooperation. He also noted that the United Arab Emirates has helped establish new communication channels with Iran, including contacts involving the Revolutionary Guards.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said no country should be allowed to charge taxes or fees on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. He stressed that freedom of navigation in the strategic waterway remains an important part of any future agreement with Iran.
Rubio added that preventing ships from passing through the Strait of Hormuz would violate the current understanding between the parties. He also said that the security of Gulf allies would remain a key part of any final agreement with Tehran.
The planned direct talks with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards could become an important step toward lowering regional tensions if both sides continue dialogue. While many issues remain unresolved, the upcoming meeting in Doha shows that Washington and Tehran are willing to keep diplomatic channels open in search of a more stable and peaceful future.
