Police in Islamabad have arrested a man accused of posting controversial remarks on social media during a sensitive security situation, allegedly referring to Tarnol Crossing as the “Strait of Hormuz”. Authorities said the statement circulated online at a time when strict security measures were already in place across parts of the federal capital.
The suspect, identified as Khurram Nazir, was taken into custody after police traced the social media post to his account. Officials confirmed that a case was registered against him at Tarnol Police Station under legal provisions related to interference in government work and breach of peace.

According to police officials, the post allegedly suggested that closing Tarnol crossing would solve multiple problems, a statement authorities described as inappropriate in the prevailing security environment. Investigators said such remarks could provoke public reaction and potentially disturb law and order during an already sensitive situation.
Furthermore, authorities stated that the post was verified after examining the suspect’s mobile phone, where the social media content was reportedly confirmed. Following the verification, police proceeded with the arrest and initiated legal proceedings under relevant laws addressing interference in official duties and public disturbance.

Officials also highlighted that Section 144 remains in force across Islamabad as part of broader security measures. Under this regulation, public gatherings and certain activities are restricted to prevent unrest and ensure stability during sensitive periods.
Police emphasised that citizens must follow government directives while such restrictions remain active. Authorities warned that online posts or actions capable of inciting unrest or violating official orders may lead to legal consequences as part of efforts to maintain public order.
