693 submit nomination papers ahead of GB polls

A total of 693 candidates have submitted their final nomination papers for the upcoming Gilgit-Baltistan General Elections scheduled to be held on June 7, 2026, according to the Election Commission’s media wing. The details shared by Media Coordinator show significant participation across all 24 constituencies of Gilgit-Baltistan, reflecting a competitive political environment ahead of the polls. Among the constituencies, Gilgit-2 recorded the highest number of candidates with 65 nominations, followed by Astore-2 with 57 candidates and Ghizer-2 with 42 candidates. In contrast, Diamer-4 saw the lowest number of candidates, with only 12 individuals submitting nomination papers. Other constituencies also witnessed notable participation, including Nagar-1 (38), Hunza (38), Skardu-1 (38), and Karmang (39), indicating strong electoral interest across the region. The Election Commission has termed the overall response encouraging, highlighting active political engagement ahead of the elections. The next phase of the electoral process, including scrutiny of nomination papers, will proceed as per the announced schedule. The Gilgit-Baltistan General Elections are set to take place on June 7, 2026, amid heightened political activity across the region.
