Punjab Assembly (PA) Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan on Monday declared agricultural tax notification null and void, under executive order. Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan read out the rolling in the Punjab Assembly, following the members of the Punjab Assembly thumped their desks to pay tribute to the Speaker. On this occasion, Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan said that the authority to impose taxes lies only with the Assembly, this authority of the Punjab Assembly cannot be used by a government officer, no executive authority including the senior member of the Board of Revenue can impose any kind of tax. He said that such a notification has violated the privileges of the Punjab Assembly. The Standing Committee on Legislation should review the taxes imposed by the executive authority. The Law Committee should present its report in the Punjab Assembly within 15 days.
